Q&A: r/c Traxxas rustler radio control lots of questions answer any you can!?

Question by toombucket: r/c Traxxas rustler radio control lots of questions answer any you can!?
So im starting to finally undestand all the teminology (haver never studied electronics) but still have some questions some general and others involving the car im intnding to get!
Ok so here we go..
1. what is ESC?
2. Is a traxxas vxl worth it? what restrictions would a brushlss motor give me?
3. could i buy a vxl shell and fit it on a stock traxxas rustler?
4. After buying a normal rustler if eventually i wanted to could I mod it to a vxl by buying the parts separately?
5. And FINALLY what is mAh in terms of batteries? do batteries determine the speed or just the endurance of a rc car?

I am starting out at this so simple terms or even bette explanation of terms =] will rate first informative answer best answer!
Cy if your there your answer is much appreciated =)

1. electronic speed control what the battery’s and motor hook to the throttle

2. Yes very nice truggy and you would really have no limit with a brush less motor

3. yes you can you may need to buy longer risers the pins that the body sits on

4. you can but you will spend more money doing it that way after market parts start to add up fast

5. mAh Millie amps they do not make it go faster it is the amount of time you will get to run the motor at a good speed 3300-4200 would be great the more mAh the longer it will run and with a brush less motor use a lipo battery they will give you a better run time and they are lighter

I recommend that you monitor your Brushless motor with a temperature gauge every five minutes:

http://www.odonnellracing.com/accys/index.html

Temperature guide:
60* F – 119* F, Motor is in good condition. Only the bearings will need oil every few runs.
120* F – 139* F, Motor now puts stress on magnets & some internal to prevent further damage to motor. Stopping is recommended.
140* F – 159* F, Motor is gasping for air and needs a break. The magnets are beginning to smoke. The internal components are looking for any possible way to cool down. Stopping your vehicle is highly recommended.
160* F – 179* F, Motor is showing signs of severe fatigue and it’s likely your motor will suffer from motor overheating if you don’t stop asap.
180* F+ Your motor internals are likely burnt by now. Your motor has a 75% chance of not operating after this.

i want 2 put a brushless motor on my traxxas rustler /would i have 2 change any other parts besides the motor?

Question by xXTACOMADATXx: i want 2 put a brushless motor on my traxxas rustler /would i have 2 change any other parts besides the motor?
i wana get a firball motor

Answer by just me
When going from a brushed motor to brushless you will have to get a brushless ESC (electronic speed controller) as well… Brushless esc’s and motors have 3 connecting wires instead of 2 for brushed motors….

nothing else will have to be changed besides the motor/esc
